I was just like you. I thought Maroney was going to be a top five rusher in the NFL. Even if he never became that top five rusher, I thought he would at least provide the patriots with the ability to rush the ball once in a while keeping defensive linemen honest. What I have learned the past 3 seasons is that Maroney not only is about as average as a RB there is, he is terribly inconsistent. I'm sick of watching him dance around in the pocket like he's on "dancing with the stars" every Sunday. Yeah sure once in a while he'll break out of that pocket (providing there is gaping hole the size of the suez canal), but his inconsistency does not bring about much respect from defensive coordinators around the league. So every Sunday (with exception to the falcons for some reason) teams just blitz blitz blitz because not only do they know Brady is volunerable under pressure, but also because Maroney has trouble running through those blitzes (as he a tap dancing shmuck), and quite often has trouble catching balls during screen plays. I'm just so sick and tired of watching this guy. I think he very well could still be a very good RB for someone, but not in this offense. This offense needs tougher stronger players ( like Taylor...hell even benjarvis green ellis) who run through the line and gain 2-3 yards no matter what the situation. It is those RB that run strong for positive yards consistently, that gain respect from defensive units. Maroney has proved he cannot be that guy for the patriots.
